Dateline, Friday night: Gracie and Evan are getting ready for bed. Gracie has 2 really loose front teeth that are on the verge of falling out in her cereal bowl. I turned out the light, said goodnight, and as Gracie is jumping down into bed Evan is jumping up out of his. SMASH. (cue the smash up derby soundtrack) Blood pouring from Gracie's mouth and at this point, a small celebration. Hooray, the teeth will be out by morning.
Dateline, Saturday: The teeth are still with us, but Gracie now does not want to eat and won't move her jaw. She keeps her jaw protruding and as the day goes on becomes more and more lethargic. For some kids, the norm. For Gracie, totally abnormal. By Saturday night Gracie is acting like she is in pain - though she claims nothing is hurting - and still won't eat or drink nor take the liquid meds.
Dateline, Sunday: Gracie has the darkest circles under her eyes. She looks frail, and cannot move. She sits quietly on the living room floor. She will not eat.
Enter Katie-Anne: Can I have some cheese?
Todd: Sure, here you go.
Katie-Anne: Thanks...oooohhh....I'm okay.
That was the cue, I am okay, that said something was wrong. Instead of using the one thousand IKEA plastic knives she took a kitchen knife (sharp edge pointed at her) and sliced the cheese, one hand on the knife, one on the cheese. Slice, the knife cut the cheese (which Evan usually does, ba dum dum) and then cut right through her face. Lip split. Banana split. OUCH!
Dateline, Monday: Amy loads up Gracie and takes her to the pediatrician. They look at Gracie, her dangling teeth, dark eyes, sullen look, etc. and send her to the dentist. Gracie slept on the dentist chair. He was worried she may have a broken jaw. Concerned about her appearance. Off to the Oral Surgeon. I can tell you this, $540 will get you one heck of an Xray, and if I could, I would show you a copy. Very cool. Anyway, they decide the jaw is not broken, but that her teeth need to come out and he needs to slide the jaw around to make sure it is set. Then, after making an appointment for the morning, we head over towards-
The Tucson Heart Hospital to see Sam, who is also undergoing work (HIPAA/FERPA won't let me say much more, but suffice it to say, it probably hurt and he cannot golf for a week - painful enough)...

Then Amy calls the pediatrician (see stop #1) and talks about how Gracie looks. U-turn. Tucson Medical Center. Hello Emergency Room. Gracie is admitted and through an IV gets two steaks, a side of potatoes and some dessert. (or, 8 ML or a whole bag...whichever comes first).

Then, home.
Dateline, Tuesday: The Garelick Gang loads up the family truckster/Texas Cadillac and heads back to the oral surgeon. Gracie has a shot, screams, is out in 3 minutes - thanks Special K - and is carried away (literally) by the doctor. When we see her again, she is now going to ask for her 2 front teeth for Christmas.

And, exhausted...we move on to hump day...Go Mountain Lions in their first game.
